Being a Maternity and Newborn Photographer | Roanoke Va area is seriously one of the greatest joys as a photographer. On July 4th weekend, the Gaetano family welcomed their first born son to the world. As a Maternity and Newborn Photographer |Roanoke Virginia, this family is hands down one of my favorites to not only capture, but just to genuinely visit and catch up with. The Gaetano family invested into a Maternity and Newborn Photography package. As first time parents, they new this chapter of their life would be the best one yet that they did not want to forget. These Maternity photography packages that are offered to expecting families are perfect to make sure that the entire first year of your baby is fully documented.

Maternity Portrait Session | Roanoke

Mackenzie’s maternity portraits were so much fun! We did them towards the end of May which put her right at 35 weeks. The location that was chosen was at a private farm in Bedford that had gorgeous mountain view right out of Roanoke. I normally capture maternity portraits just a little bit earlier than 35 weeks as I try to have the final gallery completed by 35 weeks but Mackenzie was an exception and her gallery was received within one week. Three outfits were worn for Mackenzie’s maternity session. They were perfect for the summer heat. A white belly shirt and a cream knitted top that both showed off her 35 week belly and then a blue dress as her final outfit.

Newborn Studio Portraits | Roanoke VA

Every mother has their own preference of newborn portraits. Some would prefer the comfort of their own home or prefer a private photography studio that is newborn friendly. A newborn Life Style studio session with me is much different than what a standard newborn portrait photographer may offer with all of the different wraps, props, and poses and artificial studio light. I try to keep the approach very simple and natural. My approach for any newborn session is to always prepare for a minimum of an hour and a half time frame. This is to ensure we can take our time. Working with newborns is a process that should not be rushed. Mothers are always free to pump, feed their babies, change diapers, and do any self care during the time of our session. As a mother, it is never overlooked of prioritizing the needs for mothers and babies and creating a relaxing environment during portraits.

For every newborn I photograph, I always try to start with a comfy neutral color wrap and capture your baby’s facial details along with their hands. My approach is to work with natural light coming in from the studio. Later, I will then dress your baby down to just a diaper and capture all of their little newborn wrinkles on their back. Details like these very quickly fade away and are easily forgotten when you are in the thick of the newborn trenches. Usually 1-2 outfits are chosen after all of the details and family portraits will then take place for the last half of the newborn session.
